Hanoi – Ha Long Bay – Hoi An – My Son

Highlights:

In Hanoi you will explore the exciting and vibrant city on a tour that will take you to a wide range of attractions in and around the old quarter of the city. You will visit the Ho Chi Minh complex, Hoan Kiem Lake and the museum of Literature which is the site of Vietnam’s first university and dates back to 1070 and many others. You will also get to cruise through the shopping streets of the old quarter riding in a cyclo which is a traditional cycle taxi.

Ha Long Bay is a world famous heritage listed site and you will spend 2 days and 1 night traveling on the calm waters by luxury Junk. You will visit a number of the larger caverns where you wonder at the beautiful formations of Stalactites and Stalagmites created over the centuries. Your comfortable and intimate luxury Junk features a dining room, sun deck and air-conditioned cabins with private bathrooms.

Hoi An was a major Oriental and international trading port and merchant meeting place for the traders and ships of Japan, China and the west during the16th and 17th centuries. As a result, the old town inHoi An has a diverse mixture of architectural styles and today is considered a living museum of architecture and urban lifestyle. Hoi An, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1999, is also the home of two beautiful beaches where you can relax & unwind from your busy life.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival - Ha Noi

Our driver will meet you in Hanoi and transfer you to your hotel in the old quarter of Hanoi. After check in you will have free time to take a rest or start exploring the area around the hotel and take a walk around the famous Hoan Kiem Lake.

Overnight in Hanoi.

Day 2: Ha Noi City Tour (B/L)

0800h: Guide will meet you at your hotel & you will depart to visit:

Ho Chi Minh Complex: Completed in 1975 the complex contains Ho Chi Minh’s mausoleum, his former stilt house residence, the Presidential Palace and the Ho Chi Minh museum.

Next stop is a visit to the Temple of Literature: Originally built as a temple to Confucius, this is the site of Vietnam’s first university dating back to 1070. Inside are the stone steles used for ceremonies and mounted on the backs of turtles and inscribed with the names of the university’s graduates. The complex is divided into five courtyards which originally would have been reserved for the Emperor and his mandarins. One of the courtyards contains the statue of Confucius guarded by two beautiful bronze storks standing on turtles. The temple highlights the importance Vietnamese society has placed on education.

1200h: A delicious set menu lunch will be provided for you in a local restaurant.

1300h: Your tour recommences with a visit to the Museum of Ethnology which is widely acknowledged as the best in Vietnam and has an extensive display dedicated to Vietnam’s 54 Ethnic minority peoples.

Then it is on to the Ngoc Son Temple and Hoan Kiem Lake: The Ngoc Son temple is set on a tiny island on the Hoan Kiem Lake and was erected in 18th century. The temple is reached by crossing the Huc Bridge which literally means “Place Touched by Morning Sunbeams”. Hoan Kiem Lake is a focal point of the city and the source of many legends including the legend of the returned sword which dates back to the 15th century and refers to a magical sword used to free Vietnam from Chinese rule.

The Old Quarter, also known as the 36 streets, is a bustling area of narrow streets home to literally thousands of small businesses and street vendors, selling a wide variety of goods. Originally each of the 36 streets names’ were related to the products being sold there. Hence you can walk from Fish Street to Tin Street to Bamboo Street and you will enjoy exploring the area while riding in a traditional cyclo.

Overnight at Hotel in Ha Noi

Day 3: Ha Noi – Ha Long Bay (B/L/D)

0800 to 0830h: You will be picked from your hotel and start your scenic 3.5 hr drive through the Red River Delta and passing by many small villages on the way to Ha Long Bay.

You will stop for a short comfort break at the Humanity center situated approximately half way on to the bay. There you can purchase souvenirs from a vast selection items, enjoy a drink or simply stretch your legs.

1230h: On arrival to Ha Long, your guide will complete all the required paperwork for you and show you to the shuttle boat for your short trip to the cruise boat.

1300h: After checking in and short cruise briefing, you will be served a delicious lunch in the dining room while you enjoy the passing scenery of the bay.

1530h: You will have the opportunity to Kayak around the Bo Nau Cave area which has a 5 – 7m wide arch shaped entry. The cave covers an area of approximately 200 sq metres and standing at the entry gives visitors a unique view of the bay as if from the mouth of a monstrous beast.

1630h: Time to return to your cruise boat and take a short trip to Soi Sim Island where you can go swimming in the calm waters, lay on the beach or climb to the top of the hills on the island to enjoy a panoramic view of Ha Long Bay.

1730h: Return to the main boat where you can refresh or watch the sunset before dinner.

1900h: A delicious dinner will be served in the dining room and after you have finished your meal, you can relaxing and share stories with other guests while you enjoy a drink from the bar. For the adventurous, you can try your hand at squid fishing from the rear of the boat.

Overnight on cruise boat.

Day 4: Ha Long Bay – Ha Noi (B/L)

0630h: If you put your name down the night before, you can join the early morning Tai Chi class on the sun deck or simply take advantage of the amazing photo opportunities presented by watching the sun rise.

0730h: Enjoy a nice breakfast in the dining room while you watch the scenery of the bay slide past the windows as you cruise toward towards Bo Hon Island

0830h: You will visit the truly amazing Sung Sot Cave which is also known as Surprise Cave. The cave is reached by climbing approximately 100 stone steps and the journey up allows some excellent views of the bay below.

0930h: Return to your cruise boat and time to freshen up before checking out of your cabin.

While slowly cruising back toward the port, you will pass by Ba Hang fishing village, Dog Islet and many more of the wonderful formations found only on Ha Long Bay. You will also be given a short Vietnamese cooking demonstration before being served lunch on board.

1200 – 1230h: Arrive to the harbour and begin your journey back to Hanoi.

1700h: Arrive to your hotel in Hanoi.

Day 5: Ha Noi – Da Nang – Hoi An (B)

In the morning our driver will pick you up at the hotel and transfer you to the airport in Hanoi to board your flight to Da Nang

On arrival to Da Nang airport, a driver will meet you and transfer you to Hoi An in a private air conditioned vehicle.

Check into your hotel and enjoy some time to relax.

Day 6: My Son (B)

0800h: Start from your hotel and travel 50km from Hoi An to My Son holy land with an English speaking guide. My Son was a major religious site for the people of the ancient Champa Kingdom which flourished between the 4th and 13th centuries The Champa people ruled Central Vietnam until it was finally annexed by the Vietnamese in the 19th Century.

The Champa King lived in the political capital of Tra Kieu (whose commercial capital was the port of Hoi An) and so the My Son complex became the most important temples of the Champa Kingdom. Bricks were used to build the temples without the aid of mortar and sculptures of gods, priests, animals, and scenes of mythical battles adorned the walls. The temples were places of worship to the Hindu God Vishnu.

My Son was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999.

After exploring the ruins and history of My Son and viewing a short traditional Champa Peoples music concert, you will start your journey back to Hoi An arriving at approximately 1230h.

The afternoon is yours to relax or try on the new clothes you have had made.

Overnight in Hoi An

Day 7: Hoi An - Cooking Class (B/L)

0815h: You will be met at your hotel and taken into the exciting morning markets in Hoi An to purchase the fresh ingredients needed for your cooking class. The sights and sounds of the food market in the morning are quite interesting and a great start to your experience.

Next you is a relaxing 45 minute boat trip where you can enjoy the passing scenery before arriving at a local fishing village. For the more adventurous you can transfer into a small row boat for a short trip through the coconut water to visit a rustic village house.

Please note: for those who do not wish to ride in the row boat you can go directly to the cooking school.

You will learn how to prepare 4 traditional Vietnamese dishes under the guidance of the Chef and once you have finished cooking your meals, you will be able to sit and enjoy them for lunch.

1330h: You will then be taken back to Hoi An old town area where you can continue to enjoy your day.

Overnight in Hoi An

Day 8: Departure (B)

Free time until your private car and driver arrives to take you to Da Nang to board your departure flight or begin your train journey to your next destination.

Prices/Booking

Children policy:

  1. 1 child under 3 accompanied by two full paying adults stays free of charge OR 1 child 3-6 years old accompanied by two adults pays 50% of the deal price directly to the tour group upon booking.
  2. Additional children aged 0 to 6 years old welcome but are required to pay 75% of deal price. (eg. Family with 1 child of 2 & 1 child of 5, need to pay 75% of deal price for the 5 year old)
  3. Children 7 and above pay normal deal price.

Please Note: A flight surcharge of $US75.00 will apply to all children aged 3 and under.
