Tour Information

  • Price: Contact
  • Day: 1
  • Itinerary: My Son

Highlights :

  • Hoi An was a major oriental port for trading ships from Japan, China and the West during the 16th and 17th centuries and became the meeting place for a wide range of merchant traders. As a result, the old town in Hoi An has a diverse mixture of architectural styles and today is considered a living museum of architecture and urban lifestyle.
  • My Son was once the spiritual heart of the Kingdom of Champa peoples who occupied what is now the central area of Vietnam for over a thousand years. The builders of My Son gained their cultural and spiritual influences almost exclusively from India in the form of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. Shiva was the central figure of worship and his images are common in what remains of the Cham monuments. My Son is situated in an attractive valley, well away from any other buildings in a clearing surrounded by tropical jungle. The peaceful surroundings give you a feeling of stepping back to the time when then area was a major religious complex and even in their current state, the towers are impressive, and the scale of building makes its religious significance obvious.

Itinerary

  • 08.00h: Your day starts when your English speaking guide & driver meet you at your hotel and travel through the country side by air conditioned private car to My Son Holy Land 50 km southwest of Hoi An.
  • My Son was a major religious site for the people of the ancient Champa Kingdom which flourished between the 4th and 13th centuries The Champa people ruled Central Vietnam until it was finally annexed by the Vietnamese in the 19th Century. The Champa King lived in the political capital of Tra Kieu (whose commercial capital was the port of Hoi An) and so the My Son complex became the most important temples of the Champa Kingdom. Bricks were used to build the temples without the aid of mortar and sculptures of gods, priests, animals, and scenes of mythical battles adorned the walls. The temples were places of worship to the Hindu God Vishnu.
  • The return trip to Hoi An will be via road for a short while and then you will board a boat for the remainder of the trip to Hoi An.. On the way back to Hoi An, the boat will cruise the ThuBonRiver and stop for a short visit at a handicraft village and a fishing village along the way.
  • The tour guide will escort you through the fascinating ruins and give you a brief explanation of the area history and have you back to Hoi An in time for a set menu lunch at a local restaurant.
  • After lunch your guide will escort you on a walking tour around the old quarter of town where you visit many places of interest including the 400 year old Japanese Bridge, Phuc Kien Assembly Hall, and local market. You can expect to arrive back at your hotel at approximately 1600h.
