Day 2: Angkor Wat Temple Tour (B/L)

0600h: In the morning your guide will meet you at the hotel and you will visit the ancient capital of Angkor Thom, Bayon Temple, Phimeanakas & Royal Enclosure, Elephants Terrace, and the Terrace of the Leper King

Angkor Thom - Angkor Thom, covering an area of 9 Sq Kms, was established as the capital of Jayavarman the VII's empire, and was the centre of his massive building program. One inscription found in the city refers to Jayavarman as the groom and the city as his bride

Bayon Temple – Built sometime between in the late 12th & early 13th centuries, is a well known and richly decorated Khmer temple at Angkor in Cambodia. It was constructed as the official state temple of the Mahayana Buddhist King Jayavarman VII, and is positioned at the centre of Jayavarman's capital.

Phimeanakas – Is a Hindu temple built at the end of the 10th century during the reign of Rajendravarman (from 941-968) and then rebuilt by Suryavarman II in the shape of a three tier pyramid.

Elephants Terrace - Part of the walled city of Angkor Thom and was used by Angkor's king Jayavarman VII as a platform from which to view his victorious returning army. The terrace which 350m long, is named for the carvings of elephants on its eastern face

Terrace of the Leper King - It was built in the Bayon style by Jayavarman the VII but its modern name derives from a 15th century sculpture discovered at the site. The statue was called the "Leper King" because discoloration and moss growing on it resembled a person with leprosy, and also because of Cambodian legend of an Angkorian king, Yasovarman the 1st who suffered from leprosy

In the afternoon, you will visit the most famous of all temples on the plain of Angkor; Angkor Wat. The temple complex covers 81 hectares and is comparable in size to the Imperial Palace in Beijing. Its distinctive five towers are emblazoned on the Cambodia flag and the 12th century masterpiece is considered by art historians to be the prime example of classical Khmer art and architecture.

You later visit Bakheng Temple where you can enjoying a romantic sunset view form Bakheng Hills.

Return to your hotel

Day 3: Preah Dark - Banteay Srei (B/L)

0800h: In morning, you will meet with your guide at the hotel and travel through the traditional village of Preah Dark to the 12th century temple of Banteay Samre.

Built by King Suryavarman II, the creator behind Angkor Wat, the temple has been extensively restored. The temple is unique because a lack of available sandstone led to the use of laterite (rock rich in Iron & aluminum) for the roofed corridors. The pediments (triangular section) above the inner doors, include some of the most detailed carving from the Angkor period.

Continue further north and visit Banteay Srei, a temple dedicated to the Hindu God Shiva. Built largely of red sandstone, the temple has a large number elaborate and decorative wall carving which can still be seen today. The elaborate carvings are said to be the finest found in Cambodia and due to the intricate details, considered too fine for the hands of a man.

Visit the Roluos Group. The monuments of Roluos, named Bakong, Lolei and Preah Ko, are some of the earliest large permanent temples built by the Khmers and mark the beginning of the Khmer classical art period.

Lolei, is the northernmost temple of the Roluos group and was dedicated it to Shiva and to members of the royal family. It was built on an islet in the center of a large reservoir (now rice fields) by Yasovarman the 1st who was the founder to the first city at Angkor.

Return to your hotel

Day 4: Tra Prohm - Prasat Kravan – Srah Srang (B/L)

0800h: In the morning your guide will meet you and you will visit Ta Prohm, built largely in the late 12th and early 13th centuries and originally called Rajavihara, it is unlike most Angkorian temples and has been left in much the same condition in which it was found.

Next is a visit to Neak Pean which some historians believe that represents Anavatapta, a mythical lake in the Himalayas whose waters are thought to cure all illness. Neak Pean was originally designed for medical purposes and it is one of the many hospitals that Jayavarman VII built. It consists of 4 connected pools which represent Water, Earth, Fire and Wind and it was believed going into the pools would balance the elements in the bather and curing disease.

In the afternoon you will visit the unique interior brick sculptures of Prasat Kravan and the amazing Srah Srang. Srah Srang or the Royal Bath is a large basin measuring 700m by 300m and was excavated by hand during the mid 10th century.
